| FACTS: The Kyoto Protocol, to which Canada has committed, requires a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions to 6% lower than 1990 levels during the period from 2008 to 2012. Landfill gas collection and utilization represents one of the most cost effective means to reduce greenhouse gases in Canada. 99% of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) contained in landfill gas is destroyed through combustion. Landfill gas contains half the energy content of natural gas. |
